So, you’re a woman in business. First of all, welcome to the club! According to the SBA’s Women Ownership Statistics, women in the US own over 12 million businesses and employ over 10 million Americans each year. Needless to say, you’re in good company. Now that you’re here, it’s our job to cheer you on and help you succeed. Mango Marketing Co. is a women-owned marketing and branding agency based in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York. While we serve a variety of clients, our focus is branding and marketing strategy for women-owned businesses.
Now that we’ve covered that, I bet you can guess why we’re here today. We’ve got 5 tips for you that apply whether you’re a new business owner or a seasoned entrepreneur. These tried and true tips will get you on the right track (and keep you there.) Let’s dive in!
Tip 1: Get Organized
Everything is easier when you have systems in place. Whether it’s keeping documents in order, following up with clients, or managing content, your life in business will be significantly easier if you front-load a little bit of effort to put systems in place that will serve your business in the long run. For managing things like contracts, clients, and invoicing, we love Dubsado. For storage and keeping things filed in an orderly manner, Dropbox always saves the day!
Tip 2: Have a Communications Plan
Getting information to your customer base is a major part of creating awareness and generating revenue and creating posts and emails on the fly is stressful. It’s also not as effective as it could be. When you set aside time to create things like newsletters and social media posts ahead of time, you buy back time in your day-to-day. Automated tools like Planoly and FloDesk make it easy to schedule social media posts and plan emails so that you can give more focus to other aspects of your business.
Tip 3: Get Your Money Right
No matter how you feel about it, money makes the world go round, and having things set up to help you easily track expenses, accept or make payments, and create budgets will reduce so much unnecessary financial stress. It also ensures that you always have a clear picture of what you’re bringing in and helps you set new goals for growth. For all things taxes and income, we love Quickbooks. For accepting payments, we recommend Square constantly.
Tip 4: Expand Your Mind and Your Brand
Sometimes you just gotta get away. One less common recommendation we make is to get out and explore for inspiration. We try to attend industry conferences and events outside our local area at least once a year, and we always draw inspiration from travel even when it’s not work-related. Tip 5: Don’t Forget Self-Care
“Sometimes you just need a little treat.” While little treats may be currently trending, it’s for a good reason. There is not a single thing you can’t do better when you’re doing it feeling like the best version of yourself. Although society is screaming at you to hustle and grind, we’re begging you to schedule in some time for rest and relaxation. You will show up better for it, we promise! Whether you take an afternoon off for yourself, take a day trip with your bestie, or put the phone on DND, all of that can be made even better, and yummier, with a HalfDay in your hand.
Once you’ve got these main tips on lock, you’ll likely find that they provide you with an expanded capacity to grow and add even more plans and strategies. We can’t wait to see you thrive.
